Common Lascar

(Pantoporia hordonia)

Open winged it is deep chocolate brown and orange striped butterfly with slightly narrow and pointed at edge wings. It is mainly found puddling in sand in small Himalayan streams. I found it in on Gummu- Shaktighat and on Bhojnagar-chakki mor road. Puddling in stream mid afternoon at both sites. It resembles common Jester. Open winged the Lascar is narrower with slight orange strip on edges of forewing. Closed winged the common Jester has a marbled look whereas the Common Lascar has more formed stripes. The Himalayan Yellow Jester is slightly bigger in size than the common Lascar with a very visible middle pale yellow strip/band. It is also found on a higher altitude than the common Lascar.
